We first spotlighted our Stockport Business & Innovation Centre (SBIC) customer BCM Law in August 2019 when they had been here for around a year. Since then a lot has happened, so as they moved into a new, larger office here we thought we’d catch up with them…
Looking back to the start, BCM Law was created through a desire to ‘be a dynamic, ethical and innovative legal practice, offering our clients an expert service in advocacy, employment law, motoring offences, personal injury and litigation.’ Patrick Campbell, one of the senior partners told us. This formed the basis for everything that they have achieved to date and steered the course of their growth.
They had been with us a little while and were busy establishing their profile in the Stockport business community when COVID hit in early 2020. Having had the foresight to invest in state of the art IT systems from the start, they were able to transition the business to a home working model without much disruption. This made a real difference as they didn’t loose their momentum.
In fact some lessons were learnt and more use was made of Teams and Zoom once office work was reinstated. The team had enjoyed the flexibility of home working and a hybrid working model was introduced which has been a real success. Not just that, well-being is paramount in their eyes and staff benefits were reviewed and enhanced with free gym membership being just one example.
The partners are keen to be supportive of the the next generation of legal talent and have forged a partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University to provide their students with work experience. In addition, their partnerships with local colleges provided a rich vein of candidates when the time came to recruit a paralegal and their apprenticeship scheme will again be utilised when they look to recruit again.
This additional resource enables the team at BCM Law to focus more on the growth and direction of the business. Clearly it has been beneficial as their reputation continues to grow! Active networking and an effective online presence including Trustpilot and Google reviews has driven their growing customer base.
Rated 4.9 – Excellent on Trustpilot, above is a snapshot of the latest reviews.
By the end of 2024 it became apparent that they had really outgrown their first office here at SBIC and John, the centre manager, was delighted to facilitate their move to a bigger, much brighter window office opening onto the business lounge. The new office even gives them some room for future expansion too!
Jamie Byrne, another of the senior partners told us, ‘John, Liz and staff have always been very supportive. We are very proud to show our clients around the centre and they are always very impressed. We are feeling very positive following our official expansion into the new office in February 2025 and have a space we can grow into. We are very pleased with how things are developing and plan to recruit a new paralegal in the near future.’
Patrick added, ‘Another advantage of having offices under the Oxford Innovation Space banner is the ability to use the sister site, Merseyway Innovation Centre, which is located in Stockport. It’s a great option if it’s more convenient for our clients to meet centrally.’
The team at SBIC couldn’t be more delighted with the ongoing success of BCM Law who joined us as a start up in 2018, long may it continue!
